A Scribe for Christ Jesus, My Lord and Saviour

Will You Answer Your Call Series Blog Post # 1

When I began writing this book seriously, I was going through some hardships. I was very unhappy and depressed. I was unemployed, but I had all the time in the world. As an escape, I began to write this book—a Christian sci-fi dystopian novel.

At first, I felt like God was calling me to write. But I dismissed it and assumed it was just my flesh, something to distract me from my misery and soothe my soul. I was broke. And when I struggled financially, I was not a very nice person. I isolated myself from the people I loved. I figured maybe God placed the idea in my head and heart to shift my focus away from my present circumstances. Writing became my form of escapism. As I wrote, I felt the need to pour out what was inside of me by the power of the Holy Spirit.

What I’m about to say might sound strange to some, but when I started typing the book, my spirit felt like Jesus Christ was right next to me, encouraging me to keep writing while I typed on my laptop. It felt as though He wanted me to keep going and pushing through.

The story was inspired by me one random day leaving my local train station, as I had many times before, in the South Bronx at Third Avenue–149th Street. It is the home of the business district The Hub. That place is chaotic. There are crowds, noise pollution, and many public transit options. There’s a large homeless population and a lot of drug abuse in the area. At the same time, there is heavy gentrification happening. It feels like a wrestling match between big businesses moving in and the methadone clinics, high crime rates that are already part of the community. The area has been prone to violence exacerbated by the 2020 pandemic.

I remember feeling frustrated by seeing the syringes on the ground, the massive crowds, and the endless street vendors. Then a thought crossed my mind: imagine some of these people being recruited into the military and used by the system. That thought sparked something in me. This place is bad enough—and real enough—to inspire a dystopian world. I hope you, the reader, get to visit someday.

Eventually I found work and completely stopped writing the book. It kept coming up in my mind like ideas, characters, names, places, plot and how it would glorify Him. Oddly enough I even envisioned it as a Hollywood blockbuster because of the gripping story and the action. I still didn't write and was not being a good steward. Then suddenly things at that job became difficult. There were system changes coming, the workload increased, and I felt overwhelmed. One day I just up and quit immediately. No two weeks notice. My body and mind could not handle it anymore. Looking back now, I can say that God allowed it for His glory.

After that, I had more time to write once again. The year 2025 was an absolute adventure. I struggled to land a permanent job and survived by doing gigs, contract work, and temporary jobs. Yet in most of those places, there were assignments, people I needed to minister to, encourage, pour myself unto or to simply pray.

Then something interesting happened. When I started taking the book even more seriously, during that time, I was blessed with a permanent job. As I have continued to work, I have worked on this book even more seriously. God commissioned me to work on this book in the foundation of the world.

While working on the book, I began to feel an urgency—not just to write it, but to eventually get it published. God wants this book finished. Somewhere out there is a person—or maybe a group of people—who will encounter the true gospel of Jesus Christ through this story. I want this work to be excellent so that Jesus may find the work absolutely pleasing to Him.

My target audience is the unbeliever, the prodigal child, the atheist or agnostic intellectual, and if they choose believers as well. It would be wonderful to have many readers.

The truth is, writing this book has brought out a wide range of emotions in me. Even though the manuscript isn’t finished yet, I’ve felt overwhelmed, afraid, discouraged, and sometimes completely lacking confidence in my ability to finish it. Sometimes I wonder if this book would even be published.

Writing a book is labor-intensive. But this has to be done, because God is trying to accomplish something through it. I believe the book will change the life of whoever reads it. But it’s already changing my life as its writer.

Through this process, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how much God loves humanity. He sincerely cares about the little things in our lives—the things people might consider mundane. I can testify to that. It’s important to feel seen, heard, and most importantly loved by our Creator.

“So, God created man in His own image, in the image of God, He created him; male and female He created them.” - Genesis 1:27

This is one of the most important and strongest bible verses demonstrating that humans were created in God’s image, giving humanity inherent value and purpose.

With all that said, I want to thank those of you who are joining me on this journey as I write my book, A Pressing Emergency.
